Men's Soccer- No. 18 Vikings Shut-Out Seahawks in Conference Win
The nationally ranked No. 18 Long Beach City College men's soccer team defeated the LA Harbor Seahawks 1-0 in an offensive battle on Friday evening at the Viking Soccer Field.
After a first wide shot, freshman midfielder Angel Villalobos tried took his second shot and scored the only goal of the game in the 37th minute. Freshman midfielder Martin Razo was on the assist for Villalobos.
Long Beach was dominant on offense the entire game. The Vikings fought hard against the Seahawks and totaled 14 shots to put the LA Harbor goalkeeper to work. Viking goalkeeper Mario DeLaTorre held his own in the cage for the shut-out and had five saves for Long Beach.

Cross Country- Cross Country Qualifies Four For State Championships
The Long Beach City College men's and women's cross country team qualified four athletes at the 2018 SoCal Championships for the State Championships.
On the men's side, the team placed 19th with 499 points. Sophomore Moises Marquez qualified with a 5:05 average mile time to total 20:20.4 and place 33rd out of 190 athletes. Up next for the Vikings was sophomore Rafael Gonzalez in 50th place with a 5:11.3 average mile time and a 20:45 total time to qualify for the 2018 State Championships.
For the women's team, freshman Dasani Zavala and sophomore Lilyanna Figueroa both qualified for State Championships. Zavala came in 55th place with a total time of 20:05 and averaged 6:27.8 per mile. Right next to her in 51st place was Lilyanna Figueroa with a time of 20:05.1.
These four athletes will compete again in the 2018 State Championships on Saturday, Nov. 17that Woodward Park in Fresno at 8:30 a.m. To see the remaining schedule for cross country, click here.
Women's Volleyball
The women's volleyball team won their fourth-consecutive game last Friday evening at LA Harbor College 3-1. With the win, the Vikings are 5-1 in conference, 18-3 overall and hold the No. 8 spot in the state rankings.
Freshman Tylie Johnson led the team with 19 kills against the Seahawks. Freshman setter Levila Iosua had 34 assists and sophomore outside hitter Isabella Alvarez had four service aces.

Women's Water Polo- Women's Water Polo Win South Coast Conference Championship
The women's water polo team were crowned 2018 South Coast Conference Champions for the fourth-consecutive year.
The Vikings participated in the South Coast Conference Championship Tournament over the weekend at Cerritos College as the No.1 seed in the tournament. The Vikings' opened the tournament with a 16-5 win against No. 4 Chaffey College. Sophomore Harlie Whelan and freshmen Alejandra Villa and Sydney Brightenburg each scored three goals against the Panthers. Whelan totaled four assists and had one turn-over and Villa tallied three steals for the Vikings.
The Vikings then advanced to the Championship round and defeated No. 2 Mount San Antonio College 11-8. Villa and Brightenburg led the Vikings with five goals each and sophomore goalkeeper Cam Rosas totaled seven saves in four quarters. Rosas has totaled 139 saves so far this season. Freshman defender Samantha Martinez had four steals in the game against the Mounties and holds 26 steals on the season.

Football- Long Beach Falls to No.1 Canyons 34-7
The Long Beach City College football team fell in their final home game of the 2018 season to the top-ranked College of the Canyons Cougars 34-7 on Saturday evening. With the loss, the Vikings drop to 4-5 overall, and 1-3 in conference action.
The Vikings were first on the board a four-yard rush from freshman running back Teshawn White to kick-start the conference game. Over the course of the game, White totaled 29 yards against the Cougars.
Freshman quarterback Jonathan Murphy held his own as he passed 187 yards with his longest being 36 yards and netted 50 yards in rushing.
On the offensive side, the Vikings netted 131 yards rushing. Long Beach also acquired over 100 total return yards and had two sacks against the Cougars for a total of 16 yards form freshmen defensive line Pierre Hayes and Marvin Boyd.
Freshman defensive back Jack Genova was the defensive leader as he garnered 10 total tackles.

Men's Water Polo- Men's Water Polo Named 2018 SCC Champions
The Long Beach men's water polo team was named the 2018 South Coast Conference Champions after their 12-7 tournament win against No. 2 Cerritos College on Saturday Nov. 3. This is the Vikings' second consecutive conference championship.
The Vikings opened the South Coast Conference Tournament with a 20-6 win against No. 4 Chaffey College. Sophomore Felipe Carsalade led the team with five goals, two steals, two turn-overs and had one assists against the Panthers. Sophomore attacker Karlo Krmek and freshman center Ivan Mercep each had four goals for the Vikings.
The Vikings then moved to the Championship game of the tournament and defeated No. 2 Cerritos College 12-7. Krmek totaled four goals against the Falcons. Krmek has totaled 48 goals so far this season with 21 of them in conference action.
Freshman goalkeeper Seth Seaboch was a wall in the cage for the Vikings as he totaled 17 saves for both games. Seaboch has totaled 158 saves as the Vikings' starting goalkeeper.

Men's Basketball- Men's Basketball Crowned SAC Tip-Off Tournament Champions
The Long Beach City College men's basketball team opened the 2018-19 season by being named the Santa Ana College Tip-Off Tournament Champions. The Vikings defeated Santa Ana College 74-71 on the first day of the tournament and then went on to win the second game against No. 11 Santiago Canyon 74-62.
Freshman guard Jace Bass from Redondo Union High School was named the 2018 Tournament Most Valuable Player as he totaled 48 points for the tournament. In total, Bass also held five assists, seven steals, one block and had 13 rebounds.
Freshman guard Aaron Jelks and sophomore forward Matthew Wooten were named to the All-Tournament Team to round out the honors.
Wooten was on fire during the Santa Ana game as he scored eight points and held 16 rebounds and had one steal. During the game against Santiago Canyon, Wooten scored seven points, totaled nine rebounds, got two blocks against the Hawks and had one assist in 25 minutes play.
Jelks scored eight points against the Dons in game one of the tournament and held 100% accuracy in three-pointers. During the second game, Jelks helped the Vikings get the win with five assists, one steal and had two rebounds.

Women's Basketball
The Women's basketball team started their season over the past week bringing back two losses. On Friday, the team fell to Saddleback College 58-50. Freshman guard Jaseemah Martinez was the leading scorer of the game pulling 11 points. Sophomore guard Kaylin Brown was right behind her with 10 total points. She also lead the team with five assists.
On Saturday, the Vikings fell to No. 13 College of the Canyons 67-50. Sophomore forward Imani Edmond led the team with 16 points and tallied three steals. Sophomore guard Taja Ward had three blocks against the Cougars.

Women's Soccer- Trowbidge Scores Solo Goal Against the Seahawks
The Long Beach women's soccer team fell to the LA Harbor Seahawks 2-1 on Friday evening at the Vikings Soccer Field. With the loss, the Vikings drop to 8-9-1 overall and 4-2 in the South Coast Conference. The Vikings also celebrated their sophomores (Madison Slade, Sophia Corrales, and Jessica Ochoa) for all their time, dedication, and effort for the past two years.
The Vikings put forward their best efforts and were first on the scoreboard. Freshman forward Quinn Trowbridge picked up the leftovers from freshman forward Allison Casillas' previous shot and put it in the back of the Seahawks' net.
LA Harbor then scored in the first half to tie the game 1-1 and then hit another goal in the second half to take the lead and the win 2-1.
