Women's Volleyball- SCC Announces Six Volleyball Athletes to All-Conference List, May-Treanor as Co-Coach of the Year
It was recently announced by the South Coast Conference (SCC) that six women's volleyball players earned All-Conference recognition. Sophomore middle blocker Elsa Woods, freshman outside hitter Tylie Johnson, and sophomore setter Levila Iosua all earned first-team accolades, while sophomore outside hitter Jessica Blakeman, freshman defensive specialist Kaitlyn Peterson, and sophomore setter Sierra Davis brought in second-team honors. Furthermore, third-year head coach Misty May-Treanor was named All-SCC Co-Coach of the Year for the second-consecutive year.
May-Treanor led the group of talented athletes in a second consecutive first-place showing in conference after a 7-1 record. Overall, the Vikings were 22-4 for the season. The athletes showed passion and determination which resulted in a nine-game winning-streak during the middle of their season.
Woods is being recognized for her contribution to the team's kills and digs per set. She averaged out about 1.3 kills and 1.2 digs per sets. Woods started twenty three games this season and helped lead the pack with one of the highest total of kills and digs on the team.
Johnson was ranked second in conference for having 3.79 kills per set and a grand total of 250 overall kills. She was also ranked fourth in conference for having a hitting percentage of .256. Johnson was a driving force on offense this season and assisted the team in many scoring opportunities.
Iosua led the conference with the highest number of assists per set resulting in averaging 9.1 assists per set. She also helped the team on defense with the second highest total of digs on the Vikings team.
Blakeman was ranked fifth in conference with 3.08 kills per set, having 197 overall kills and a .244 hitting percentage. Blakeman was an offensive asset this season for the Vikings and helped lead the team to the playoffs for the third-consecutive season.
Peterson is being recognized for averaging 2.1 digs per set. Peterson played a key role to the Vikings on the defensive side with totaling 124 digs overall.
Davis is being recognized with all-conference honors for the second-consecutive season. She was ranked third overall in conference with a hitting percentage of .297. Davis was all-around player and helped the Vikings succeed on offense and defense.
Men's Basketball
The No. 8/12 men's basketball team traveled West LA College for the Wild West Shootout and was crowned tournament champions. Freshman guard Jace Bass was named the Tournament Most Valuable Player and sophomore guard Jordan Heard was named to the All- Tournament team. This is the Vikings' second tournament championship win so far this season.
The Vikings first took down Barstow College 76-66. Then the Vikings went on to defeat Pierce College 92-71. For the Championship game, the Vikings defeated West LA College 88-76.
Bass scored 53 total points for the tournament and had six assists, 17 rebounds, had ten steals. Heard scored 29 points total and was 71.4% at the three point line in the championship game.

Women's Basketball - Hampton Holds on to Palomar in Tough Loss at Home
The women's basketball team fell to the No. 5 Palomar College Comets 74-69 in a brutal battle on Tuesday evening in the Hall of Champions. With the loss, the Vikings drop to 3-4 overall.
The Comets took the reins in first quarter with an 11-3 jump start lead. Freshman forward Naomi Winston-Ellis was the first Viking to the basket with a three pointer to get the Vikings' offense moving. Winston-Ellis totaled 12 points for the game and had six rebounds, four assists, two steals and one block against the Comets.
In the second and third quarters, the Vikings outshot the Comets and tied the game seven different times. Palomar couldn't hold down sophomore forward De'Brianna Hampton, as she was increasing her points every quarter with scoring six in the second and seven in the third. She led the team with 20 total points, had six rebounds and three assists.
Freshman guard Jaseemah Martinez led the team with seven rebounds and scored ten Vikings points.
Palomar closed the gap in the fourth quarter and ended the game with the 74-69 win over the Vikings.

Women's Water Polo-Villa Named SCC MVP, Oeding Earns Eighth SCC Coach of the Year
After the women's water polo team hauled in their fourth consecutive South Coast Conference (SCC) title this year, it was recently announced that seven players were named to the All-SCC teams. Head coach Chris Oeding was named the SCC Coach of the Year for the third-consecutive year following another undefeated conference showing.
Freshman center Alejandra Villa was announced All-SCC MVP of the 2018 season. Freshman attacker Sydney Brightenburg, sophomore goalkeeper Cam Rosas, freshman driver Samantha Martinez, and freshman attacker Madison Hinojosa were all named to the SCC first-team, while sophomore attacker Harlie Whelan and freshman driver Karissa Qualley were honored with second-team accolades.
Oeding is recognized as the 2018 SCC Coach of the Year for the eighth time following a third-consecutive undefeated conference record. Oeding finishes the women's season 17-11 overall and also an impressive 413-128 career record at Long Beach.
Villa is being recognized for her ability to perform on both offense and defense. She totaled 70 goals throughout the season, as she ranked number four overall in conference goals. She totaled 24 steals altogether.
Brightenburg earns first-team honors as she totaled 65 goals for the season. She was the team's sharp shooter and had a game-high record of six goals against Chaffey College.
Rosas reeled in first-team accolades with her strength as a goalkeeper. She is ranked fourth in the conference with 168 saves. She also topped the conference list with a 59.7 save percentage.
Martinez earns first-team honors as a defender for the Vikings. She was the decision-maker at the top of the perimeter and heled a .85 shooting percentage.
Hinojosa rounded out the first-team honors as she ranked fifth in conference for her 40 assists this season. She brought in 15 goals overall and had 16 steals.
Whelan earns second-team recognition for the second-consecutive year as she tallied 28 goals, 32 assists, and had 38 steals.
Qualley made the second-team list for the first time as a defender. She reeled in 30 goals, 16 assists and 29 steals.
Men's Water Polo- Krmek Named SCC Most Valuable Player, Oeding Earns Coach of the Year
It was recently announced by the South Coast Conference (SCC) that seven Long Beach City College men's water polo players were honored with All-SCC selections after a 6-1 conference season. Leading off the awards was sophomore attacker Karlo Krmek who was named the 2018 SCC Most Valuable Player of the Year. Sophomore driver Felipe Carsalade, freshman attacker Hugo Roscio, sophomore attacker Kobe Jackson, and freshman center Ivan Mercep were all named to the first-team all-conference list, while freshmen attackers Fabio Mujica and Aleksa Vucurovic earned spots on the second-team list.
Alongside the All-Conference selections, Coach Chris Oeding was honored with the 2018 SCC Men's Water Polo Coach of the Year Award. This season Oeding led the team to a 19-9 season. This is the Vikings' second-consecutive conference first-place showing. While under Oeding, the men's water polo team has totaled 15 men's water polo conferences titles.
Krmek clinched the 2018 MVP recognition for his 59 goals and 42 steals during the season. He participated in 27 games and played a valuable role on creating opportunities for the Vikings. Krmek's shooting average was 68.6 percent and he also was a catalyst to the offense with 14 assists.
Carsalade earns first-team honors for the second year in a row as an overall well-rounded player for the Vikings. He led the team in blocks with eight blocks, and stole the ball on 40 different occasions. On the offensive side, Carsalade made 63 goals for the Vikings.
Roscio took home first-team accolades this season for his driving force on offense. He participated in 28 games and led the team with 73 goals. He was a constant threat on offense with his physicality and awareness. He also created many scoring opportunities with totaling 20 assists.
Jackson stepped up his game as he is being recognized for first-team selection. Last year he earned second-team selection. Jackson contributed his efforts with nine assists, 10 steals and totaled six goals.
Mercep rounds out the first-team honors for his amazing show on offense. He totaled 56 goals this season, averaging about 73.7 percent shooting average. Mercep also contributed defensively with seven steals and two blocks.
Mujica is being recognized with second-team honors for his offensive participation on the Viking's team. The former soccer player led the team in assists, creating 22 scoring opportunities. Mujica also had 27 steals and made 23 goals this season.
Vucurovic finalized the conference selections with earning second-team honors for the Vikings. He totaled seven steals and had 22 goals this season.
Football- Football Brings in All-Conference Selection
At the conclusion of the season, the Long Beach City College football team saw 12 athletes receive Southern California Football Association National Division All-Northern League post-season honors.
Freshman defensive lineman Divine Obichere was honored with making first-team for Defensive Tackles. He collected 20 solo tackles this season and averaged about 5.1 tackles each game for the overall season. Obichere also had six sacks and helped with 26 assists.
Freshman running back Pierre Robinson received a first-team honor for all-purpose player. He made five touchdowns throughout the season and total 474 rushing yards. Robinson was a force on the field averaging 47.4 rushing yards per game.
Freshman defensive back Jack Genova was honored with first-team recognition for totaling 47 solo tackles for the season and averaging 8.5 tackles per game. He led the Vikings in overall tackles bringing in 85 total. Genova also carried the team with 38 assists.
Freshman running back Teshawn White brought in first-team accolades for his offensive contributions. He made five touchdowns with three being in conference games. He totaled 95 rushes and 497 yards ran throughout the season.
Sophomore safety Cross Poyer earned first-team accolades after taking home second-team honors last season. Poyer lead the team with 38 assists and held 64 tackles during season.
Sophomore offensive lineman Jeremiah Paulo rounded out first-team selection and was a major threat on the offensive line against his opponents.
Freshman quarterback Jonathan Murphy received a second-team honors as the starting quarterback for the Vikings. Murphy threw a total of 694 yards with 62 completions and had an 89.4 percent pass efficiency.
Freshman defensive lineman Noah Bias received a second-team accolades for his 15 solo tackles and overall 32 tackles. Bias also tallied 1.5 sacks and had 17 assists.
Sophomore cornerback Jeremiah Houston received a second-team honors for his efforts on the field. Houston had 33 tackles and led the team with three interceptions.
Sophomore offensive lineman Steven Almada received a second-team achievements for his contribution to the offensive line. Almada was a leader to the defense and showed it through his physicality.
Freshman offensive lineman Sebastian Hernandez received second-team honors for his contribution to the line and awareness on the field.
Sophomore wide receiver Patrick Lee also received a second-team recognition for his five touchdowns and totaling 30 receptions and 399 yards.
Freshman wide receiver Jonathan Bonds, freshman defensive back Ahmir Wilson and sophomore corner back Jordan Yancy all received honorable mention for their efforts.
The Long Beach City College football team will return next Fall.
