Men's Basketball- Men's Basketball Advances to the Third Round of CCCAA SoCal Regionals
The state-ranked No. 11 men's basketball team took down the No. 21 Santiago Canyon Hawks 78-70 in the second round of the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Southern California Regional Playoffs on Friday evening in the Hall of Champions. With the tenth-consecutive win, the Vikings advance to a 25-4 overall record.
The Hawks took control in the first half of the game by outscoring the Vikings 42-32. They had their largest lead of the game of 12 points with one-minute left in the half. Sophomore guard Nicolas Stuart held the Vikings in the first half as he was constantly consistent at offensive rebounds.
The Vikings came back in the second half of the game ready to finish. Sophomore guard Jeremiah Sadler hit back-to-back three pointers and sophomore forward Matthew Wooten kept the offensive momentum shift with a smashing dunk from the assist freshman guard Jace Bass.
Bass led the team with 28 points, 12 rebounds, and had 10 assists and two steals. Freshman guard Aaron Jelks and Sadler both totaled 10 points for Long Beach. Sophomore forward Charles Smith was a force on defense as he had four blocks against the Hawks.
The Vikings held pushed themselves and finished the playoff game with 78-70 win over Santiago Canyon to advance to the third round of the CCCAA SoCal Regionals on Saturday, March. 9.

Softball- Softball Sweeps Cerro Coso off the Field
The Long Beach City College softball team shut-out Cerro Coso College 24-0 on Friday afternoon. With the win, the Vikings advance to 11-5.
Freshman pitcher Brittney Runyon (2-0) earned her second win in the circle with only allowing the Coyotes to one hit. Freshman pitcher Alora Murray came in the third inning and earned her first save of the season.
The Vikings opened the game with eight runs in the bottom of the first inning, three in the second, and five in the fourth and then finished the game with eight more runs in the fifth inning.
Freshman center fielder Destinee Ripley, freshman short stop Jade Wittman, sophomore designated player Raven Agapay, freshman left fielder Maria Aguilar, freshman third baseman Ileana Rivera sophomore first baseman Ashley Pozo, freshman catcher Jocelyn Cebedo, freshman right fielder Inessa Smith , freshman pinch runner Sabrina Perdomo, freshman pinch runner Briana Aguilar, freshman left fielder Savannah Headley, freshman pinch hitter Morgan Heard and Murray all scored for the Vikings throughout the game.
Aguilar went three-for-three at the dish and scored two total runs with three RBIs. Smith also went three-for-three and scored three runs with two RBIs for the Vikings.
Headley hit her first double of the season against the Coyotes and Wittman smashed a triple to right field.

Baseball- Baseball Falls to the Moorpark Raiders in One Run Battle
The Long Beach City College baseball team fell to the Moorpark College Raiders in a tough 2-1 loss on Tuesday afternoon. With the loss, the Vikings drop to 6-8 overall.
The Raiders were on the board first with two runs in the first inning to start the game.
In the bottom of the fourth inning, sophomore first baseman Mark Stanford doubled to center field to score in freshman designated hitter Zach Rivas for the Vikings only run.
Freshman pitcher Sebastian Irwin (1-1) took home his first loss on the mound as he allowed the Raiders two runs on five hits, while striking out two.

Swimming- Swim Hosts First Conference Meet of the Season
The Long Beach City College men's and women's swim teams hosted the first South Coast Conference meet of the season at the Vikings Aquatics Complex. Both teams placed second against Pasadena City College and Chaffey College.
For the women's team, freshman Karissa Qualley placed first in all her events. She swam the 200 yard free with a time of 2:12.82, the 200 butterfly with a 2:42.19, and the 200 backstroke with a 2:35.61. Freshman Victoria Rowe also placed first in all her events with a 59.91 in the 100 freestyle, 1:04.46 in the 100 butterfly, and 2:32.94 in the 200 Individual medley.
On the men's side, Freshman Michael Baker placed first in the 100 yard backstroke with a 57.10 and in the 200 backstroke with a 2:06.06. Freshman Josh Harvey also had a first place finish in the 50 yard freestyle with a 22.08 finish.

Track & Field
The Long Beach City College track & field team competed at the Beach Opener at CSU Long Beach this past weekend.
For the men's team, sophomore Darnelle Harris placed tenth in the 100 meter finals with a time of 11.23. The men's 4 x 100 relay team (Tyler Slack, Andrew Ruffin, Miguel Guillen, Darnelle Harris) placed seventh with a 44.67 time.
The women's team, freshman Aazalet Danage placed with in the 200 meter finals with a 25.82. Freshman Calissa Candalot took sixth place in the javelin with a 34.53 meter mark.
The Long Beach City College track & field team will return to action on Friday, Mar. 8 at the Ben Brown Invitational at CSU Fullerton.
