Football- Football Holds on to Crosstown Cup After Cerritos Victory
The No. 19 Long Beach City College football team took down No. 10 Cerritos College in a 36-24 win for the Crosstown Cup and 2019 Vikings Homecoming victory. With the win, the Vikings advance to 3-2 overall.
The Vikings offense was unstoppable against the Falcons as they totaled 368 yards and averaged 254 yards in the air and 114 yards on the ground. On the defensive side, sophomore linebacker DeAnthony Jones led the team with nine tackles, two sacks and 22 total yards lost for the Falcons.
The Falcons were first on the board with a 41-yard field goal in the first quarter. Freshman wide receiver Zack Leets responded for the Vikings with a 13-yard pass from freshman quarterback Derrach West for the Vikings' first touchdown. Cerritos ended the quarter with team safety to only trail the Vikings 5-6.
In the second quarter, the Falcons hit back-to-back field goals to take the lead over the Vikings 11-6. Freshman running back Jonathan Watson then scored a touchdown to end the half with the 12-11 lead for Long Beach.
Watson came back in the third quarter with a 29-yard run to extend the Vikings' lead 19-11. Then freshman kicker Alfredo Flores his a 25-yard field goal to bring the Vikings up to 22 points.
In the fourth quarter, sophomore running back Talaun Patton made his way into the Falcons' end zone to extend the lead 29-19. The Falcons answered back with a nine-yard run to try and close the gap, but then freshman defensive back Isaiah Hobson made a 61-yard interception return to add more points on the board for the Vikings. Cerritos scored one more touchdown with the final minute of the game, but it wasn't enough to stop the Vikings.
Long Beach ended the game with the 36-24 Homecoming and Crosstown Cup win. The Vikings will play again on Saturday, Oct. 19 against East Los Angeles College in their first conference game of the season at 6 p.m. at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

Women's Soccer- Women's Soccer Sweeps LA Harbor 2-0
The Long Beach City College women's soccer team took down LA Harbor College in a 2-0 sweep on Friday afternoon in Veterans' Memorial Stadium. With the win, the Viking advance their record to 6-3 overall.
Sophomore forward Allison Rose Veloz was on fire as she scored both goals in the first half. For the first goal, she received a cross pass from sophomore forward Brittany Caudillo for a straight shot into the Seahawks' cage. For her second goal, Veloz received a penalty kick after a Seahawk foul in the box. Veloz totaled seven shots on the LA Harbor goal.

Women's Volleyball- Long Beach Takes Down Cerritos in Three Sets
The Long Beach City College women's volleyball team defeated Cerritos College in a 3-0 sweep on Friday evening by set scores of 25-14, 25-18, 25-17. With the sixth-straight win, the Vikings advance to 9-5 overall and remain undefeated in the South Coast Conference with a 4-0 record.
The Vikings were unstoppable against the Falcons in the Building Q Gym. Freshman outside hitter Tiara Moseby led the team with 14 kills and sophomore opposite Cairon Fido was a threat to the Falcons as she totaled a .458 kill percentage and had ten digs.
Sophomore outside hitter Callissa Candalot was also an offensive force as she smashed ten kills against Cerritos. Sophomore setter Lexi Randolph helped seal the conference victory as she had back-to-back service aces in the final set. She also set a career-high record of 28 assists for the Vikings.

Women's Water Polo- Women's Water Polo Dominates El Camino 21-4
The women's water polo team defeated the El Camino College Warriors 21-4 on Wednesday afternoon at the Vikings Pool Deck. With the win, the Vikings advance to 10-1 overall and remain undefeated in the South Coast Conference 3-0.
The Warriors didn't have a chance as sophomore attacker Sydney Brightenburg scored the first goal for the Vikings within the first minute of the game. Freshman attacker Rachel Westphal, sophomore center Alejandra Villa and sophomore attacker Jillian Schultz all went on to score three goals each against El Camino.
Freshman attacker Quynn Gillan led the team with 10 goals against the Warriors.
Goalkeepers Alinna Perez and Calla Torres were unstoppable in the cage as they only let four total goals by them. The Vikings will be back in action on Wednesday, Oct. 9 at Pasadena City College. To view the rest of the women's water polo schedule, click here.
Men's Water Polo- No. 1 Men's Water Polo Still Undefeated
The No. 1 Long Beach City College men's water polo team remains undefeated after a 20-8 conference win against El Camino College on Wednesday afternoon. With the win, the Vikings advance their streak to 14-0 and 2-0 in South Coast Conference play.
The Vikings started the game with a goal from freshman center Jose Barajas. Then sophomore attacker Fabio Mujica, freshman attacker Cameron Frazier, and freshman attacker Michael Baker rung the score up to 5-0 before the Warriors could put themselves on the scoreboard.
Sophomore attackers Vedran Latkovic and Aleka Vucurovic, Barajas, Mujica, and Baker all score two goals each for the Vikings.
Freshman goalkeeper Matteo Marcato and Cole Raulston held down the cage as they only allowed the Warriors to eight goals.
