Football- Peabody Celebrates 50th Win With Victory Over Moorpark
The No. 12 Long Beach City College football team defeated the Moorpark Raiders 58-35 on Saturday evening at Veterans Memorial Stadium. With the triumphant win, Vikings advance to 6-2 overall and are undefeated in conference action with a 3-0 record.
This is Head Coach Brett Peabody's 50th career win with the Vikings. He is now in his seventh season and continues to move the football program to greater heights.
Sophomore wide receiver Zion Bowens opened the game with back-to-back touchdowns and totaled 70 yards in the air to start off the first quarter. Freshman quarterback Derrach West sealed the first quarter 21-0 shutout with a 12-yard run.
The Raiders got on the board in the second quarter, but freshman wide receiver Zack Leets was quick to answer back with a 23-yard touchdown pass from West. The Raiders scored again at 6:26, so the Vikings cranked out a 31-yard field goal from freshman kicker Alfredo Flores to hold on to the lead 31-14.
Sophomore linebacker D'Anthony Jones got a taste of offense as he recovered a Raiders fumble in the end zone to score for the Vikings. Jones was unstoppable on defense all game long as he led the Vikings with nine tackles and had three sacks for a loss of 12-yards.
The Vikings kept the offensive pressure in the second quarter as freshman wide receiver Julian Woodard caught a seven-yard flyer from West to close out the half with the 45-14 lead over Moorpark.
The Vikings allowed the Raiders to score in the third quarter, and then brought back the pressure in the fourth. Woodard dominated in the air again with 20-yard touchdown pass to bring the Vikings up to 51-21. The Raiders put up seven more points, but the Vikings came down again with an eight-yard run from freshman running back Keathon Jasso. Moorpark made one last touchdown with less than two minutes left in the game, but the Vikings still had the lead and remained victorious with the 58-35 conference win.

Women's Soccer- Women's Soccer Falls to Cerritos 2-1
The Long Beach City College women's soccer team fell to the Cerritos College Falcons 2-1 at Veterans Memorial Stadium on Friday afternoon. With the loss, the Vikings drop to 10-5 overall and 2-2 in the South Coast Conference.
The Falcons scored two goals in the first half to command the lead 2-0. After the break, freshman forward Melissa Monjaraz smashed a free kick to the back of the Falcons' net to bring the score up 2-1.
The Vikings powered through the rest of the game, but ultimately fell to the Falcons 2-1. The Long Beach City College women's soccer team will return to the field on Tuesday, Nov. 5 at LA Harbor College at 3 p.m. To view the rest of the schedule, click here.
Women's Volleyball- Long Beach Sweeps East Los Angeles 3-0
The Long Beach City College women's volleyball team defeated the East Los Angeles College Huskies in a 3-0 sweep on Friday evening. With the win, the Vikings advance to 16-6 overall and are 11-1 in the South Coast Conference.
Sophomore outside hitter Callissa Candalot was on fire as she nailed 14 kills and had a .524 kill percentage for the Vikings. Sophomore setter Cairon Fido dialed herself in as she totaled 34 assists for the game and freshman defensive specialist Celestial Ropati conquered the court as she had 12 digs to help seal the conference win.

Women's Water Polo- Women's Water Polo Remain Undefeated in Conference
The No. 4 Long Beach City College women's water polo team defeated the Cerritos College Falcons 13-6 to go undefeated with a 7-0 record in the South Coast Conference. With the win, the Vikings bring their overall record up to 20-5.
Freshman goalkeeper Calla Torres was relentless as she had 13 saves against the Falcons.
Freshman attacker Rachel Westphal led the team with three goals, while sophomore attackers Jillian Schultz and Sydney Brightenburg, and sophomore defender Karissa Qualley had two goals each.
The Vikings held the Falcons from the start and finished the game with the 13-6 win. The No. 4 women's water polo team will be back in the pool in the South Coast Conference Championships on Thursday, Nov. 8 at Cerritos College. To view the rest of the women's water polo schedule, click here.
Men's Water Polo- Men's Water Polo Perfect in Conference with Win over Cerritos
The state-ranked No. 1 Long Beach City College men's water polo team defeated the Cerritos College Falcons 13-10. With the win, the Vikings hold on to their 24-1 overall record and remain undefeated in the South Coast Conference with 5-0 record.
Sophomore attacker Vedran Latkovic led the Vikings with four goals, had two assists, two field blocks, and drew two Falcon ejections. During the game, freshman attacker Cameron Frazier set up four Vikings' goals with four assists.
Freshman center Jose Barajas and freshman attacker Austin Peterson both helped seal the Vikings conference victory by drawing seven Falcon ejections each. Cross Country-Women's Cross Country Takes Third at South Coast Conference Championships
The Long Beach City College cross-country teams participated in the South Coast Conference Championships over the weekend. The women's team took home third place in the women's 5k and the men's team placed fifth overall in the four mile-run.
Sophomore Donovan Zavala placed the highest for the men's team with 15th place and a time of 23:06.6. Freshman Jonathan Ruiz was close behind him in 27th place with a 23:57.2 time. Following Ruiz were sophomores Evan Ridgeway with a 24:33.5 and Esteban Almaraz with a 24:47.1
On the women's team, sophomore Dasani Zavala placed the highest for the Vikings in the 11th spot with a 23:00.1 time. Freshman Amaya Ferris was up next in the 15th slot with a 23:40.8. Freshman Vanessa Washington rounded out the top 20 in the 19th spot with a 24:13.9.
The cross-country teams will be back in action on Friday, Nov. 8 at the Southern California Regionals at Mission Bay Park in San Diego.
