RIVER FALLS, Wis. -- Theta Chi Alpha (ΘΧΑ) welcomed a total of 167 student-athletes into its inaugural induction class during the 2021-22 academic year, the National College Athlete Honor Society announced today.

Officially launched last August, Theta Chi Alpha is a nonprofit honor society established to recognize student-athletes from two-year institutions of higher education who excel in athletics, academics, and citizenship.

"It was an exciting first year for Theta Chi Alpha as we were able to celebrate student-athletes from coast to coast for their outstanding achievements," Kellen Wells-Mangold, Executive Director of the National College Athlete Honor Society, said. "We look forward to recognizing even more chapters and inductees in the years ahead."

To be eligible for induction into Theta Chi Alpha, college student-athletes must: participate in a sport at the varsity intercollegiate level for a two-year institution with an active membership in Theta Chi Alpha and the NJCAA, CCCAA, FCSAA, or NWAC; complete three full-time semesters (or four trimesters); and earn a 3.4 or higher cumulative grade point average. Student-athletes who compete for a collegiate club team are also eligible if the club team is overseen by the athletics department at the local chapter. Selection for membership is conducted by an athletic department designee in consultation with the individual's head coach, and is based on outstanding scholarship, earned athletic letters, and excellent character and citizenship.

Any two-year institution interested in joining Theta Chi Alpha must complete a membership application. Once the application is approved, the enrollment fee for the initial academic year is $125. Chapter dues cover the institution's entire athletic department, regardless of the number of student-athletes inducted. After the initial enrollment fee, annual assessments drop to just $75 each year to maintain the athletic department's charter.

Advisors, student-athletes, and supporters can follow Theta Chi Alpha on Facebook and Twitter.

The National College Athlete Honor Society, Inc. is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that was founded in 1996. Theta Chi Alpha and Chi Alpha Sigma work with state chapters of two- and four-year institutions, respectively, to recognize college student-athletes who excel in their sport, the classroom, and the community. The National College Athlete Honor Society is part of an athletics community made of diverse groups and supports all efforts in the realm of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
