It was a historical day for Long Beach City College Athletics as the inaugural women's volleyball season began this Friday morning. With mass amounts of hype and hope, the Vikings brought the brooms for a complete sweep of the competition in the Long Beach Legend's Quad against San Diego City College, Orange Coast College, and Santa Ana College.
All five courts were dominated by Long Beach as only one match on the entire day went to three sets. Both poise and power was displayed from all teams with sophomore Sarah Miller (Long Beach, CA) and freshman Paige Panter (Southlake, TX) leading the way on court #1. Pantor displayed a knack for finding the sand while Miller followed suit with equal efforts.
Freshman Marina Adolpho (Long Beach, CA) and sophomore Jessica Kaeka (Long Beach, CA) grinded to a complete match sweep highlighted by overcoming a significant second-set deficit. At one point, the pair was trailing by nine points and came back to win by the final score of 21-18.
Freshman Jordan Diaz (La Habra, CA) and sophomore Breana Torres (Long Beach, CA) may have put together the most exciting match of the day by coming from behind to win the final two sets against SDCC after dropping the opening set. A second-set rally, much like Aldolphos and Kaeka, gave them a boost to come back and win in set three. Match point can be seen here.
Freshman duo Mariah Clausen (Bellflower, CA) and Valeria Payan (Pacoima, CA) cruised through the day with ease, while freshman Amber Bangma (Long Beach, CA) and freshman Fayleen Valdez (Long Beach, CA) did exactly the same.

The Vikings (3-0) will continue action away on Friday, March 3rd as they face off against Ventura College at Cal State Northridge's campus in the Ramon Calderon Cup. The match is set for 12:30 p.m.
