Preview: Women's Beach Volleyball Reaches SoCal Regional Playoffs in Inaugural Season

In its inaugural season, the Long Beach City College women's beach volleyball team landed in third place in the Pacific Coast Conference with 13-4 that included a conference mark of 8-4. Their finish earned the Vikings a California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) SoCal Regional berth that will take place on Tuesday, May 2nd where they will take on the Ventura College Pirates and the Cypress College Chargers.

LBCC will take on Ventura first starting at 12 noon, backed by a showdown against Cypress at 1 p.m. Both matchups will take place at the Ventura Marina and will be hosted by Ventura College.

Earlier in the season, the Vikings took down Ventura College by the final score of 4-1. Three of the four match victories were won in two-sets. Long Beach has not faced off against Cypress this season.

Long Beach saw their top flight that consisted of sophomore Sarah Miller (Long Beach, CA) and freshman Paige Panter (Southgate, TX) haul in a 2017 PCAC Individual Championship after defeating Palomar's top flight. Only one of their five contests went two three sets to prove their dominance throughout the day. Additionally, they have advanced to the CCCAA Individual State Playoffs at West Valley College starting on Saturday, May 6th at 10 a.m.

Freshman tandem Jordan Diaz (La Habra, CA) and Marina Adolpho (Long Beach, CA) reached the second-round of the PCAC Individual Championships, but were upset in two sets for their first loss of the season as a pair. However, the duo will look to play a key role in the quest for a State Championship berth. They were not paired up during their showdown against Ventura earlier in the season.

An impressive duo featured Long Beach's fifth flight that consisted of sophomore Breana Torres (Long Beach, CA) and freshman Fayleen Valdez (Long Beach, CA). After defeating Rio Hondo's fives, the two brought San Diego Mesa's top flight to three sets, but were ultimately edged in the third set.

The winner of the three-team regional will advance to the the CCCAA State Championships on Friday, May 5th at West Valley College in Saratoga, CA.
