Beach Volleyball Advances to SoCal Regionals for the Second Consecutive Year

The Long Beach City College women's beach volleyball team took home the first place trophy in the South Coast Conference with a 15-4 overall record that included a perfect conference mark of 6-0.

Their finish earned the Vikings a California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) SoCal Regional spot that will take place on Tuesday, May 1st at Granada Beach, where they will take on the Bakersfield College and San Diego Mesa College.

Long Beach returns to the sand after freshman Tatyana Tuilaii-Umi and sophomore Jordan Diaz won the South Coast Conference Pairs Championship by defeating El Camino College in two sets.

The Vikings will tackle Bakersfield College first at 10 a.m., then San Diego Mesa at 12 p.m. Both matches will be hosted by the Vikings at Granada Beach.

The Vikings took down San Diego Mesa 4-1 in their first match of the season. Freshmen Josannah Vazquez and Sierra Davis cruised through their set with ease, while sophomore Jessica Kaeka and freshman Brooklin Mize swept their opponents. Freshmen Isabella Alvarez and Doris Woods also had no problems through their sets and walked away with a perfect score.

On March 9, the Vikings hosted Bakersfield College and swept the Renegades 5-0. Vazquez and Davis, Umi and Diaz, Kaeka and Mize all swept their opponents and finished with a perfect score.

The winner of the three-team regional will advance to the CCCAA State Championships on Thursday, May 10th at West Valley College in Saratoga, CA.
