Long Beach City College freshman Tony Monroy (Warren HS) smacked a two-out, two-run single to break a 1-1 tie in the seventh inning while freshman Daniel Rocha (Narbonne HS) allowed one run over eight innings in a 3-1 South Coast Conference win over visiting El Camino College Compton Center on Tuesday.

The victory improved LBCC to 4-0 in conference play and 12-7 overall. The three-game SCC series resumes on Thursday (Mar. 16) at the MLB Urban Youth Academy in Compton.

Monroy had two of Long Beach's six hits on the day. His go-ahead single drove home sophomore Stevie Castro (Wilson HS) and freshman Steven Nuno (Warren HS). Sophomore Tanner Moore (Irvine HS) hit a RBI single in the third inning to get the Vikings on the board.

Rocha improved to 4-1 with today's victory. He scattered five hits and allowed the lone Compton (2-16, 1-3 SCC) in the fifth. Freshman Jacob Zinger (Poly HS) closed out the win with a scoreless ninth for his first save.
