Baseball: Vikings complete sweep of L.A. Harbor, tied for first with three games to play

Long Beach City College won its fourth straight game, including a 7-3 South Coast Conference victory at Los Angeles Harbor College on Saturday to wrap up a three-game sweep of the Seahawks. Long Beach currently sits tied for first place in the SCC with Cerritos College at 14-4 with just three games left to play in the regular season.

LBCC totaled 15 hits in Saturday's win including four by sophomore Tai Tiedemann (Poly HS). He was also big for the Vikings on the mound, as he picked up the after allowing just five hits and two earned runs over the seven inning start.

Tiedemann increased his average to .360 on the season with his perfect 4 for 4 afternoon. He smacked a pair of doubles, drove in two runs, and scored twice in his offensive show.

Long Beach jumped on Harbor (11-22, 7-11 SCC) starting pitcher Gino Brockway for two runs in the first, and single runs in the second and third to chase his from the game. LBCC added two more runs in the fourth to take a 6-2 lead.

Freshmen Tristin Chamberlain (Millikan HS), Tony Monroy (Warren HS), Vincent Byrd II (Sacramento, CA/El Camino HS), and Gavin Windes (St. John Bosco HS) all had two hits for the Vikings. Sophomore Evan May (Oxford Academy) closed out the victory by pitching a perfect eighth and ninth innings.

Long Beach, now 22-11 overall, closing out the SCC schedule with a three-game series against third-place El Camino College. The Warriors enter the series two games back of LBCC and Cerritos at 12-6. The top two teams from the conference earn automatic bids into the Southern California Regional Playoffs.

The three-game set opens Tuesday at El Camino with Game 2 at LBCC on Thursday. The series and season finale will be played on Friday back in Torrance at ECC. All games are set for 2:30 p.m. start times.
