Long Beach Baseball Joins the CCCSIA's Sixth Ranking of the Year

The Long Beach City College baseball team has climbed into the California Community College Sports Information Association (CCCSIA) rankings for the first time this season. After holding a seven-game winning streak that stretched into mid-April, Long Beach currently sits at 19th overall with a record of 21-13-1.

The Vikings join top-ranked El Camino College as the other South Coast Conference (SCC) –South member to in the rankings. They have held the top spot for the majority of the season. Pasadena City College is the other SCC member to join the rankings as well.

Long Beach boast a deep roster with numerous weapons offensively and on the mound.

Sophomore first baseman Vincent Byrd II (Sacramento, CA) paces the Vikings at the dish by leading the SCC-South in batting average (.387), RBI (39), home runs (8), slugging percentage (.653), and on—base percentage (.503). Freshman outfielder Val Stammler (Long Beach, CA) has come on very strong in the latter half of the season by pushing his batting average to a clip of .321 to go along with three triples, three home runs, and 27 runs scored. Sophomore shortstop Antonio Monroy (Maywood, CA) follows him in the batting order in the two-hole and has cruised to a .365 batting average and .450 on-base percentage. He paces the team in run scored with 35.

The pitching front has been led by freshman starter Josh Agnew (Long Beach, CA) who has made a name for himself around the SCC-South and the state. He has started in 12 games and has earned a record of 7-3 in 84 innings pitched. Additionally, he has earned a lowly 2.14 ERA and fanned 45 batters. Sophomore starter Schuyler Hill (Long Beach, CA) backs his teammate's efforts by leading his squad in strikeouts with 53. He boasts a record of 5-3. Freshman reliever Chase Ambrose (Long Beach, CA) has handled the closing duties for the majority of the season by earning four saves while holding a 4-2 record as well. Furthermore, he has an impressive 2.19 ERA in 24.2 innings pitched.

The Vikings currently sit in second-place in the SCC-South standings and hold the third-best winning percentage in the SCC. They look to improve their record as they will continue a three-game series with the EC-Compton Center Tartars today at 2:30 p.m. on the road.
