LBCC Baseball's Josh Agnew Signs with Loyola Marymount

After experiencing a breakout season in his inaugural campaign for the Long Beach City College baseball team, freshman pitcher Josh Agnew (Long Beach, CA) has inked his National Letter of Intent to attend Division-I Loyola Marymount University next season.

Agnew was a pillar for the Viking's pitching staff by acting as the team's ace on the mound. He made 17 appearances, all being starts, to earn a 10-4 record. He amassed a strong 117.2 innings pitched which ranked second in the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) and second in the South Coast Conference (SCC) – South division. He tossed five complete games, ranking him tops in the SCC-South and third in the state. While Agnew was not a power pitcher, he managed to accumulate 63 punch outs to average a 4.82 strikeouts-per-inning ratio. He allowed minimal damage throughout the season that contributed to a solid 2.60 ERA.

In all but one start, Agnew tossed five or more innings and won nine of those contests. He earned a pair of six-strikeout games and recorded at least a two or more punch outs in each outing. Of his five complete games, four of them were shutout victories highlighted by a 7-0 win over East Los Angeles. He allowed just a set of base knocks.

At season's end, Agnew was named to the SCC-South First Team All-Conference team. In conference action, he went 5-1 with 27 strikeouts in 61.2 innings pitched. Additionally, he held a 1.61 ERA and tossed back-to-back complete game shutouts against EC-Compton Center and El Camino, respectfully, to cap the regular season.

Agnew joins a LMU team that finished the season with an overall record of 38-18 that included a conference record of 20-7. The Lions failed to reach the NCAA Tournament after going 1-2 in the West Coast Conference (WCC) Championship Tournament.
