Vikings Fall to the Pirates at Home

The Long Beach City College baseball team fell to the Orange Coast College Pirates 11-6 on Tuesday afternoon at the Joe Hicks Field.

Sophomore pitcher Joshua Rios (1-2) took home his second loss with three runs on two hits in five innings of work. Rios also had two strikeouts against the Pirates to keep them at bay.

The Pirates came out swinging in the first inning and scored in three runs. The Vikings bounced back in the bottom of the fifth, with a homer on the first pitch from freshman catcher David Balboa.

Orange Coast added four more runs to the board in the sixth and seventh innings to extend the lead 7-1.

The Vikings caught up in the bottom of the seventh with a double to left field from sophomore outfielder Robert Funk to bring in three runs. Then sophomore third baseman Reese Berberet got on base with a walk and was batted in by sophomore outfielder Aaron Fawcett to bring the score up 7-6.

The Pirates were ready to fight back with two more runs in the eighth inning and finished with an RBI single in the top of the ninth to take the 11-6 win from the Vikings.

The Long Beach City College baseball team will play again on Saturday, Feb. 17 at Orange Coast College at 2 p.m.
