Baseball Stumbles Against Glendale College Vaqueros

The baseball team lost to the Glendale College Vaqueros on 6-9 on Wednesday afternoon at the Joe T. Hicks Field.

Sophomore pitcher Joshua Rios (1-4) took the loss with one hit on two runs in 1.2 innings of work, while striking out one. The Vaqueros brought the bats to the Vikings, and held on to their lead from the second inning to the finish. 

Sophomore third baseman Reese Berberet had an RBI single in the first inning to bat in freshman shortstop David Rivera to lead the Vikings 1-0.  The Vaqueros scored in two runs in the second inning to take the lead 2-1.

Glendale scored again in the top of eighth with a RBI single to extend the lead 3-1.

Action picked back up in the ninth inning, when the Vaqueros scored five runs to lead Long Beach City College 9-1. The Vikings bounced back in th bottom of the ninth starting with Berberet advancing to home from a walk drawn by freshman first baseman Mark Stanford. With the bases still loaded, sophomore designated hitter Dominic Maxie smashed an RBI single to left field to bring in freshman catcher David Balboa.

Then sophomore outfielder Collin Perez was next at the dish with a double and batted in Stanford and sophomore center fielder Aaron Fawcett. Freshman second baseman Travis Aversa finished out the five-run rally with a sacrifice fly to bring in Maxie for the Vikings' final run and the Vaqueros took home the 9-6 win.

Baseball will play again tomorrow at home at the Joe T. Hicks Field against Chaffey College in their first conference game at 2 p.m.
