Baseball Hangs on for One Run Win Over East Los Angeles

The Long Beach City College baseball team took the 5-4 win over the East Los Angles College Huskies in their third conference game on Tuesday afternoon at the Joe T. Hicks Field. With the win, the Vikings are 10-8 overall and are 2-1 in conference.

Freshman pitcher Garrett Rennie (2-0) from Los Alamitos High School, earned his second win on the mound with facing 21 batters, and allowing one run on four hits, while striking out three.

The Huskies were first on the board with an RBI double in the top of the third.

The Vikings picked up their offense momentum in the bottom of the third with an RBI single from sophomore third baseman Reese Berberet to bat in freshman catcher Andrew Mugica. Berberet pulled out the bats again in the bottom of the fifth with a 2 RBI double to left field that brought in sophomore outfielder Colin Perez and Mugica once more to lead the Vikings 4-1.

Freshman first baseman Mark Stanford hit a sacrifice fly in the bottom of the seventh to score in designated hitter freshman David Balboa in the bottom of the seventh for the Vikings final run.

The Huskies weren't finished yet and scored three runs in the top of the eighth to only trail the Vikings by one run. Long Beach City College finished the game with the 5-4 conference win and will play again at East Los Angeles College on Thursday, Mar. 8 at 6 p.m.
