Vikings Struggle in Final Game of IVC Series

The Long Beach City College Vikings fell in the final game of the three-part series against Irvine Valley College 8-4 on Tuesday afternoon.

The two teams were scoreless for the first two innings, then in the third inning, the Lasers scored three runs to lead the Vikings. They continued their lead in the fourth and fifth inning with three more runs to lead Long Beach 6-0.

Sophomore second baseman Travis Aversa then took off for the Vikings and hit a double to bring in sophomore shortstop Chris Rubottom in the sixth inning. Sophomore designated hitter David Balboa was next with an RBI single to score in Avera to only trail the Lasers by four runs.

Irvine Valley came back to score two more runs in the seventh inning and then sophomore third baseman Mark Stanford then hit a two RBI single to score in Rubottom and freshman left fielder Ryan Guerero.

In the end, the Lasers walked away with the 8-4 win over the Vikings, but Long Beach will return to action on Wednesday, Jan. 30 against West LA College at 2 p.m. at the Viking Baseball Field.
