Vikings Take Down Taft College 2-1

The Long Beach City College baseball team defeated the Taft College Cougars 2-1 on Wednesday afternoon. With the win, the Vikings advance to 4-7 overall.

Sophomore pitcher Garrett Rennie (2-1) earned his second win on the mound with only allowing one run to the Cougars, while striking out a season-high record of eight batters.

The Cougars got on the board first with an RBI single to left field to take the lead 1-0.

The Vikings were ready to answer back in the bottom of the fourth inning. Sophomore left fielder Andrew Schmitt hit an RBI single to bring in sophomore designated hitter Robert Barham off third and tie the game 1-1.

Then sophomore second baseman Raul Gonzalez smashed the ball to right field to score in sophomore catcher Brett Wells to take the lead 2-1.

The Vikings held on to the lead for the rest of the game and sealed the 2-1 victory over Taft College.

The Long Beach City College baseball team will be back in action on Thursday, Feb. 21 against Fullerton College at 2 p.m.
