Long Beach Baseball Wins Third-Straight Game with 10-7 Victory over Fullerton

The Vikings defeated the Fullerton College Hornets 10-7 on Thursday evening at the Vikings Baseball Field. Pitcher Sebastian Irwin (2-0) earned his second win on the mound with only allowing one run on three hits to the Hornets, while striking out four.

Freshman designated hitter Zach Rivas was unstoppable at the plate as he went four-for-four and totaled three runs for the Vikings.

Long Beach started strong as they scored four runs in the first inning from sophomore second baseman Raul Gonzalez, sophomore shortstop Travis Aversa, sophomore first baseman Mark Stanford and Rivas.

The Hornets bounced back with two runs in the top of the second, but it wasn't enough to catch up to the Vikings.

In the bottom of the third inning, freshman center fielder Ryan Guerero hit a double to center field to bring in sophomore left fielder Andrew Schmitt and sophomore right fielder Rafeeq Rahim to bring the score up 5-3.

Then in the bottom of the fourth inning, Aversa scored as sophomore catcher Brett Wells was hit by pitch with the bases loaded, and then Rivas was scored in by Rahim after he was walked to extend the Vikings lead 9-4.

Fullerton then smashed a solo home run in the top of the fifth inning. The Vikings kept their offense momentum going as Wells doubled to center field in bottom of the sixth to bring in Rivas. Then Rahim hit an RBI single to score in Wells to keep the lead 10-4.

The Hornets tried to catch up as the scored three runs in the top of the eight, but the Vikings closed out the game with the 10-7 win.
