Vikings Baseball Named South Coast Conference Champions

The No. 7 Long Beach City College Vikings were named the Co-South Coast Conference South Division Champions along with El Camino on Friday afternoon, after suffering a 7-5 loss to Compton College.

The Vikings now wait for a playoff seeding for the CCCAA SoCal Regionals on May 3.

The Tartars opened the game against the Vikings in the top of the second inning with three unearned runs. The Viking rallied in the bottom of the second with an RBI double from sophomore third baseman Chris Rubottom, followed by a two RBI single from sophomore left fielder Andrew Schmitt and then sophomore short stop Travis Aversa closed out the inning with a double to left field to score in Schmitt to bring the Vikings ahead of the Tartars 4-3.

Compton tied the game in the top of the sixth and then capitalized on a Viking error to score three runs in the top of the eighth.

Schmitt hit an RBI single in the bottom of the ninth to score in freshman center fielder Carter White, but it wasn't enough and the Vikings finished the game with the 7-5 loss. With the loss, the Vikings still hold on to the conference crown with a 17-5 record.
