The Long Beach City College baseball team struck down the Cerritos College Falcons with an 8-2 conference victory on Wednesday afternoon.

Freshman pitcher Jake Habelitz (2-0) earned the win on the hill with only allowing the Falcons to two runs, one earned, on four hits, while striking out four in seven innings of work. Freshman pitcher Matthew Pinal (Sv. 3) switched from first base to pitcher to get the save in the final two innings.

Freshman left fielder and lead-off hitter Ryan Guerero homered to left field in his first at-bat to get the game started. Freshman catcher Malik Clayton kept the offensive momentum rolling with an RBI double, and then Pinal batted one more run in to have the Vikings lead 3-0.

The Falcons started to close in by adding two runs in the second and third innings, but freshman third baseman Evan Vazquez put on a show in the bottom of the fourth with a home run to left field for two RBI. Vasquez shined at the plate against the Falcons as he went three for four at-bat with one run, and totaled four RBIs for the game.

The Vikings polished off the win in the bottom of the eighth with back-to-back RBI doubles from Clayton and Vazquez.

The Vikings will be back in action on Thursday, March 31 at Cerritos College at 2:30 p.m.
