Football: Former LBCC standout Bryan Braman impressive in Monday Night Football debut with Houston Texans

Former Long Beach City College Viking Bryan Braman definitely turned some heads with an impressive debut last night with the NFL's Houston Texans in the team's nationally-televised Monday Night Football game against the New York Jets.

Braman, who signed with the Texans just last week as an undrafted free agent, totaled six tackles, 1 ½ sacks, and forced a fumble during the fourth quarter of Houston's 20-16 win.

"He has been exceptional," Texans head coach Gary Kubiak told the Houston Chronicle following the game. "He's a very gifted athlete. ... He's got some ability."

Braman's sack of Jets quarterback Greg McElroy late in the contest led to the punt that gave Houston back possession of the ball before its game-winning drive.

Braman was a two-year standout at LBCC during the 2007 and 2008 seasons. He was twice named first-team all-conference at defensive end.

As a sophomore, he posted 24 tackles, five sacks, and had eight quarterback hurries. During his freshman season, Braman totaled 59 tackles with 7 ½ sacks.

Braman also won a state championship in the javelin for the LBCC track and field team as a freshman during the 2008 spring season.

He looks to continue his impressive play in efforts to make Houston's opening-day 53-man roster. The Texans host the New Orleans Saints on Saturday (Aug. 20) in their second preseason game of 2011.

Braman is one of two former Vikings currently in the NFL. Former LBCC wide receiver Stephen Burton was a seventh-round draft pick of the Minnesota Vikings earlier this spring.
