Football: Vikings open conference play with thrilling 31-28 win at LA Harbor

Freshman Alex Valencia (pictured, left) kicked a game-winning 32-yard field goal with no time left to lift Long Beach City College to a thrilling 31-28 Central West Conference win at Los Angeles Harbor College on Saturday night.

Sophomore Ryan Craighead (pictured, right) passed for 397 yards and three touchdowns in the win. He closed his night completing 30 of 54 passes with two interceptions. He tossed TDs to sophomores Willie Bobbitt, Travon Payne, and Mike Evans.

After Harbor tied the score at 28-28 with 1:18 left in the contest, Craighhead drove Long Beach 44 yards over 10 plays to get to the Seahawks' 15-yard line.

Valencia, who had already missed twice on earlier field goal attempts, saved his best kick for last. His kick split the uprights as time expired, setting off a big LBCC celebration on the Seahawks' home field.

The win improved Long Beach to 2-4 overall and 1-0 in the CWC. Harbor, who entered the game ranked No. 7 in Southern California, dropped to 4-2 and 0-1 in conference play.

LBCC returns home next week (Oct. 22) to host Moorpark College in its annual Homecoming Game. Kickoff is set for 1 pm at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
