Long Beach City College football sophomores Taylor Bongiovanni (Redondo Union HS) and Kelly Harpham (Lakewood HS) were named to the 2013 Southern California Football Association Scholar-Athlete team on Tuesday. Bongiovanni and Harpham were two of 80+ student-athletes that were honored by the SCFA.

"We are incredibly proud of Kelly and Taylor," said LBCC head coach Brett Peabody. "These are guys that define the term 'student-athlete'. They have great attitudes and exceptional work ethics, not only on the field but in the classroom. They are great models for others in our program."

Harpham, a linebacker for the Vikings, led the team with a 3.66 GPA. On the field, Harham played in two games and totaled 11 tackles and a sack.

Bongiovanni compiled a 3.59 GPA. From the defensive line, he was ninth on the Vikings with 34 tackles. He also added two sacks and forced a fumble.

Individuals named to the Scholar-Athlete team must have participated in two seasons, completed a minimum of 36 units, of which 27 must be academic (non-PE, sport team classes), and compiled a grade point average of 3.0 or better.
