The Long Beach City College Vikings are officially the new No. 1 team in the State of California as well as in Southern California according to polls releases late Monday.

The 7-0 Vikings, one of just four unbeaten teams in the state, earned 11 out of 13 first-place votes and 347 points to take over the No. 1 position in the JC Athletic Bureau State Poll of California Community College Football Coaches.

Also on Monday, LBCC moved into the top spot in the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA)/California Community Colleges Football Coaches Association (CCCFCA) Southern California National Division rankings. Long Beach received six of eight first-place votes and 118 points to move to No. 1 in the regional rankings.

Previous No. 1 Riverside City College suffered a Week 6 loss to drop from the top positions in both polls. Long Beach is 7-0 for the first time since its 1998 national championship season and is coming off a 52-40 win over Chaffey College on Saturday.

National rankings by JCGridIron.com and JcFootball.com should be released later this week. Long Beach will likely hold steady at No. 3 in this week's national polls.

The Vikings have a bye this weekend and return to action on October 31 when they travel to No. 4 state-ranked Riverside in a huge SCFA National Central League game that will have major postseason implications. Kickoff is set for 6 p.m. at RCC's Wheelock Stadium.
