No. 5 LBCC Football Falls to No. 25 Mt. Sac

The No. 5 Long Beach City College Vikings took to the road on Saturday night by facing off against the No. 25 Mt. San Antonio College Mounties. The Viking struggled against Mt. Sac by putting together an uncharacteristic showing on offense en route to a 3-34 defeat.

LBCC's lone points came in the final seconds of the first half as Sergio Garcia booted home a 23-yard field goal following a 13 play, 64-yard drive. During that drive, the passing game was the most efficient as freshman quarterback Jake Maier  competed three straight passes - two coming at 10 yards or more. Sophomore wide receiver Jacob Welch had the longest reception that went for 15 yards.

Maier finished two yards shy of 200 yards through the air, but failed to find the end zone. Welsh was his biggest threat as he hauled in seven snags for 102 yards.

The ground game was evenly distributed, with freshman Roderick Ashford Jr. earning nine carries for 42 yards. Jason Floyd ran for 68 yards off eight attempts as well.

Sophomore linebacker Isaia Rostens had a solid day on the defensive end which was highlighted by seven tackles and an interception. Sophomore linebacker Jared Utupo paced the defense with 11 stops - three coming solo style.

Freshman punter Miguel Rodriguez booted off seven punts on the night, with a season-long 50-yard bomb coming in the second quarter.

Despite losing the battle, Long Beach still recorded 358 total yards, which was just 31 fewer yards than Mt. Sac. Additionally, the Vikings were only victim to one penalty in the game.

LBCC (4-2, 0-1 SCC) will look to regroup against Chaffey on Saturday, October 22 at home for homecoming night. The game is set to kick off at 6 p.m.
