Long Beach to Host Patriotic Bowl Against Bakersfield

The No. 13 Long Beach City College football team is set to host one more game this season by hosting the 2017 Patriotic Bowl against No. 15 Bakersfield College on Saturday, Nov. 18 at Veterans Memorial Stadium at 4 p.m. This is the second-consecutive year that the Vikings host Bakersfield in a bowl game.

Game tickets will be sold for $12 at the door. The cost of admission for seniors and students will be $8 and the game will be streamed live compliments of LBCC Viking Productions on YouTube.

The Vikings earned their bowl game after posting an overall record of 7-3 and near perfect record in conference with a 4-1 mark. Last year, the Vikings defeated the Renegades 47-41 in the 2016 Western Bowl. The Vikings ended the 2016 season with a victory to complete their overall record 9-2.

The Vikings wrapped up the 2017 campaign last weekend with a big 55-48 win over the El Camino College Warriors. With the win, Long Beach clinched their third-consecutive National Central conference championship and their fourth-straight War Axe win.

This season, sophomore quarterback Grant Lowary is ranked second in the Southern California Football Association with 280 passing yards per game and holding 27 touchdowns from on top. Freshman running back Elijah Bynum is ranked second in the Central League in rushing 88.9 yards per game and scoring 11 touchdowns on the ground.

As for Bakersfield, the Renegades finished their season 7-3 overall and 3-2 in the National Northern League. They average 329 yards per game in offense and is ranked first in the Northern League in rushing touchdowns with 11 total.
