The No. 16 Long Beach City College football team fell to the No. 9 Mt. San Antonio College Mounties 36-20 on Saturday night in their home opener at Veterans Memorial Stadium. With the tough loss, the Vikings hold 1-1 overall record.

The Mounties came onto the gridiron ready to play as they scored their first touchdown in the first quarter, followed by a team safety. They scored two more touchdowns to hold off the Vikings and ended the first half 22-0.

In the second half, the Mounties scored again to command the Vikings 29-0. Long Beach then felt the fire and came back fueled as freshman wide receiver Julian Woodard hailed a 32-yard pass from freshman quarter back Derrach West to put the Vikings on the board 29-7.

Then with four minutes left in the third quarter freshman running back Saeed Galloway burst from the pack to slay a 38-yard run into the Mounties' endzone to start closing the gap 29-14.

Freshman kicker Christian Lemus made his debut and nailed both PATs and totaled 242 yards in five kickoffs for the Vikings.

In the fourth quarter, the Mounties scored their final touchdown with five minutes left on the clock, but the Vikings weren't finished yet as West threw a 42-yard burner to freshman wide receiver Dominic Wingfield for the Vikings final touchdown to end the game 36-20.

The Long Beach City College Vikings football team will return to the field on Saturday, Sept. 21 at LA Valley College at 6 PM.
