Football's Irwin, Jones Named to All-America First-Team

The postseason honors continue to roll in for the Long Beach City College football team as they posted a 7-3 overall record for the 2019 season. Sophomore defensive end Shane Irwin and sophomore linebacker D'Anthony Jones were named to the California Community College Football Coaches Association (CCCFCA) All-America First-Team and the Region III All-California team. Freshman corner back Dallas Branch and sophomore punt receiver Zion Bowens also earned CCFCA Region III All-California team recognition.

Irwin took home All-America First-Team and All-State First-Team honors. In addition, Irwin has earned First-Team All-Conference for his 8.5 sacks for a loss of 58 yards and 47 tackles. Irwin recently signed with Boise State University to further his athletic and academic career at the next level.

Jones was recognized with All-America First-Team accolades, and was named the All-State Defensive Player of the Year. Jones also earned top honors as the Defensive Player of the Year for the National Northern League earlier this season as he tallied 62 tackles, four interceptions, averaged 6.9 tackles per game and was second on the conference leaderboard with 10.5 sacks and 58 sack yards.

Branch earned All-State First-Team honors by totaling 50 tackles, six interceptions and three sacks this year. He will be transferring to San Diego State University next Fall to continue his football and academic career.

Bowens had 203 yards in punt returns this past season to put him on the All-State First-Team.
