2019 Vikings Head to the NFL

After attending camps, D'Anthony Jones and Zion Bowens from the 2019 Vikings Football squad are headed to the National Football League.

The Washington Commanders are expected to sign Bowens as an undrafted free agent, Sam Fortier of the Washington Post reports. According to CBS, "Bowens didn't get selected during the 2023 Draft but will now join the Commanders for the start of their offseason program."

During his sophomore year at LBCC, he had 203 yards in punt returns to put himself on the All-State First-Team. As a wide receiver, he averaged 67.5 receiving yards per game while scoring eight touchdowns also to earn him a spot on the First-Team All-Conference offensive honors list.

After transferring from LBCC to the NCAA Division 1 University of Hawaii, Bowens totaled 52 receptions, 896 yards, and seven touchdowns as a wide receiver. His biggest accolade as a Rainbow Warrior was scoring the second-longest touchdown reception in the school history of 93 yards in 2021.

The Chicago Bears added D'Anthony Jones to their 90-man roster after watching his tryout during their rookie minicamp.

Jones was named First-Team All-American Athletic Conference, Dave Campbell's Texas Football First-Team All-Texas, tied for the national lead in forced fumbles (5) and had eight sacks last season with the University of Houston Cougars.

During his 2019 season with the Vikings, he earned top honors as the Defensive Player of the Year for the conference as he tallied 62 tackles, and four interceptions, averaged 6.9 tackles per game, and was second on the conference leaderboard with 10.5 sacks and 58 sack yards. He was also named to the California Community College Football Coaches Association (CCCFCA) All-America First-Team and the Region III All-California team.

"Zion Bowens and DeAnthony Jones exemplify our pride in developing local high school talents and four-year transfer student-athletes," said Athletics Director Kal Stewart. "LBCC serves as a pathway for these aspiring football professionals to achieve their ultimate athletic and educational goals. With over 100 football professionals and notable alums like Super Bowl Champion Brian Braman, LBCC continues to shape the future of the game, fostering success on and off the field. As the Director of Athletics, I have seen Director Peabody's unwavering care and love for his student-athletes, guiding them toward their personal and professional achievements with unparalleled dedication."
