The No. 23 Long Beach City College Vikings defeated Southwestern College 65-14 on Saturday at Veterans Memorial Stadium. With the win, the Vikings hold a 1-2 overall record.

The Vikings opened the game with a 52-yard run from sophomore running back Konyae Hunter in the first drive of the game to set the precedence of the game. Then sophomore defensive back Hagen Foreman intercepted the Jaguars ball in their third drive to return the possession back to Vikings, only for them to score again with sophomore quarterback Will Madonna throwing it to sophomore wide receiver Jaquavion Caldwell for a 10-yard touchdown. Madonna was next in the Jaguars' endzone, followed by a 33-yard field goal from freshman kicker Ethan Smithlin to bring the Vikings up 31-0.

Southwestern finally got on the board in the second quarter, but freshman wide receiver Matthew Berenji sailed one more in for 27 yards to end halftime 38-7.

In the second half, sophomore wide receivers Kyle Miller and Elijah Lewis added to the Vikings' dominance with two more touchdowns. The Jaguars snuck by the Vikings for the last time with one more touchdown, and then freshman quarterback Jett Peddy entered the game and threw a 48-yard bomb to freshman wide receiver Chad Sabal for a touchdown. The Vikings finished the game in style with an 83-yard interception return from Andrew Jenkins to finalize the 64-14 game.

The Vikings will be back next Saturday, Sept. 23 at San Bernardino Valley at 6 p.m. for their first conference game.
