This weekend's weather forecast in Southern California calls for a major storm but it was the Long Beach City College men's basketball team that rained down three-pointers at Santa Ana College on Wednesday night. The Vikings sank 17 three-pointers in a 92-70 non-conference rout over the Dons at Cook Gym.

Sophomore Chris Spencer (Jordan HS) posted a double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds but was one of the few Vikings that didn't get in on the long distance party. Sophomore Andre Springer (Jordan HS) nailed five three-pointers on his way to 16 points while sophomore Brandon Staton (Poly HS) had four 3s to also score 16 points.

Santa Ana actually led 7-2 early, but LBCC got 10 points from sophomore Elijah Gaines (San Pedro HS) as part of a 13-2 run to jump ahead 15-9 at the 12:47 mark in the first.

Long Beach held a narrow 41-34 advantage at halftime before blowing the game open in the second. Freshman Michael Shivers' (Hannibal, MO) three-pointer gave LBCC its largest lead of the game, 27 points, at 70-43 with 10:16 left in the game.

The Vikings made 17 of 41 three-point attempts while Santa Ana shot just 24 of 57 from the field for the game.

Gaines also scored 16 points to go with eight assists. Shivers added 11 points and freshman Davarrus Bryant (Venice HS) had a big game defensively with seven rebounds and five blocks.

Santa Ana (4-6) was led by Ramez Michail's 16 points.

Long Beach, now 5-3, returns to action on Tuesday (Dec. 16) when it hosts Imperial Valley College in a 3 p.m. non-conference game.
