Men’s Basketball: Camper continues hot start, Vikings beat Imperial Valley 79-63

Sophomore forward Chris Camper (Poly HS) continued his torrid start to the 2015-16 season as he put up 32 points and 11 rebounds in Long Beach City College's 79-63 non-conference win at Imperial Valley College on Saturday. The victory improved the Vikings to 3-1 overall.

Long Beach held a 38-31 lead at halftime before outscoring Imperial Valley 41-32 in the second. The Vikings sank seven 3-pointers and were 22 for 34 from the free throw line.

Camper topped his previous high game of 31 points by shooting 9 for 18 from the field, 13 for 18 from the free throw line, and even made one out of two 3-point shots for 32. He also added four steals and three assists.

Freshman Jeremiah Blandin (Poly HS) also had a big game for the Vikings, posting a double-double with 15 points and 14 rebounds. Sophomore Mena Saad (West Torrance HS) scored 17 points thanks to his 4 of 6 shooting from three-point range.

"We are off to a good start at 3-1," said LBCC head coach Barry Barnes. "With a team that is rebuilding and mostly freshmen, the future looks bright for the Vikings."

LBCC returns to action next weekend (Nov. 19-21) when the Vikings will compete at the three-day Irvine Valley Classic tournament. Long Beach opens play on Thursday against host Irvine Valley at 6 p.m.
