Sophomore Chris Camper (Poly HS) scored a game-high 29 points in his first start since November to help lead Long Beach City College to a 69-57 win over visiting Los Angeles Southwest College on Wednesday night at the Hall of Champions Gym. The South Coast Conference South Division victory snapped the Vikings' three-game losing streak and improved LBCC to 9-10 overall and 1-0 in SCC South play.

L.A. Southwest entered the contest winless at 0-12 but played the Vikings tough. Neither team led by more than three points until Long Beach put together a 9-0 run over the final five minutes of the first to take a 35-26 halftime advantage.

LBCC continued to pull away in the second. Sophomore Mena Saad (West Torrance HS) scored all nine of his points in the second half, thanks to three 3-pointers while Camper had 14.

The Vikings committed just 12 turnovers but were able to convert 22 L.A. Southwest miscues into 23 points.

Freshman Breamon Richard (University HS) added 10 points for LBCC while freshman Justin Richardson (Firebaugh HS) had another big game defensively as he totaled five blocks and seven rebounds.

Jawan Butler led L.A. Southwest (0-13, 0-1 SCC) with 22 points and seven rebounds.

Long Beach returns to action on Friday (Jan. 22) at 7 p.m. when the Vikings travel to Los Angeles Trade-Tech College for a SCC South Division game.
