Men's Basketball: Camper named SCC South Player of the Year, Vikings earn five honors

Long Beach City College sophomore Chris Camper (Poly HS) was named the South Coast Conference South Division Player of the Year to top a list of five Vikings honored at the SCC postseason coaches meeting on Sunday.

First-team All-SCC South selections were freshmen Jeremiah Blandin (Poly HS) and Breamon Richard (University HS) while sophomores Mena Saad (West Torrance HS) and Rolland Pearsall (Lawndale HS) garnered honorable mention accolades.

Camper closed out the regular season ranked No. 2 in the state in scoring, averaging a conference-leading 24.1 points per game. His 9.7 rebounds per game led the SCC and ranked 10th statewide.

Blandin was second in the SCC in rebounding at 9.4 per game while averaging 9.9 points. Richard's 11.7 PPG ranked seventh in the SCC. Saad checks in at 9.9 PPG while Pearsall was right behind with 9.7 PPG.

Long Beach closed out the regular season on Saturday with an 87-65 win at L.A. Southwest College. The Vikings finished second in the SCC South with a 6-2 record and will enter the postseason with a 15-12 overall mark. Playoff seedings will be announced on Monday at the Southern California coaches meeting.
