Vikings Take Control Over Rio Hondo College

The men's basketball team defeated the Rio Hondo College Roadrunners 85-78 on Friday evening in the Hall of Champions. The Vikings outshot their opponents in field goals and in three pointers to help seal their second consecutive victory.

In the first half, sophomore guard William English opened the game by landing the first points on the scoreboard with back-to-back three pointers, assisted by freshman forward Matthew Wooten. Wooten tallied two rebounds during the half, while English went three-for-three in three point shots. Freshman guard Jamiu Akinbile was perfect at the free throw line and brought in four points for the Vikings.

In the second half, freshman guard Jeremiah Sadler stepped up to extend the Viking lead with eight points. Wooten was also back in action with another eight points added to the scoreboard.

Overall, the Vikings were relentless at the rim with 35 rebounds and scored seven points off of Road Runner's turnovers. Sadler, English, Wooten and sophomore guard Robert Willis Jr. all scored at least ten points during the game to bring in another win for the Vikings.

The men's basketball team will play again in their first South Coast Conference game on Wednesday, Jan. 17 in the Hall of Champions against the Compton College Tartars at 6 p.m.
