The Long Beach City College men's basketball team won their first South Coast Conference (SCC) game 104-82 against the Compton College Tartars on Wednesday night in the Hall of Champions. Freshman forward Artis Parris led the team to conference victory with 28 points and was perfect at the line with a personal best of eight-for-eight.

In the first half, the Vikings fell behind the Tartars early on, but freshmen forward Matthew Wooten and guard Jordan Heard scored back-to-back points to take the lead from the Tartars. Heard, freshman guard Jeremiah Sadler, freshman guard Jamiu Akinbile and sophomore guard William English all put up five points each, but it wasn't enough to fend off Compton. The Tartars acquired the lead again and ended the half up by two points.

English came out in the second half with a three pointer to set the tone for the rest of the game, followed by another three pointer from Sadler. During the course of the game, the Vikings and the Tartars had six lead changes in score and four ties.

Sadler finished the game with 21 points, six assists and five rebounds. Parris led with seven rebounds and English had two steals to help seal the first SCC win for the Vikings.

The men's basketball team will play again on Friday, Jan. 19 at LA Harbor College in their second SCC game of the 2017-18 campaign.
