Wooten, Ofoegbu and Bass Take Down LA Pierce at Home 93-81

The Long Beach City College Men's Basketball team took down the LA Pierce Brahma Bulls (93-81) for the second time this season. In their first meeting in the West LA Tournament, the Vikings defeated LA Pierce 92-71. With the win, the Vikings advance to 11-2 overall.

In the first half, the Vikings were first on the board with freshman guard Kester Ofoegbu grabbing the offensive rebound and putting the ball in the net. The Brahma Bulls put a fight as they tied the Vikings 14 times throughout the game and the lead changed 16 times.

The Vikings were down 46-40 with 1:20 left on the clock in the first half. Freshman guard Jace Bass hit back-to-back shots with the first being a three-pointer, and then smashing a jumper from a steal from Aaron Jelks to then only trail the Brahma Bulls by one point with fifty seconds left on the clock. Ofoegbu then closed out the half with a dunk from Bass to end the first half ahead 47-46.

Ofoegbu came back out ready for more in the second half and put up the first points for the Vikings to extend the lead. The Vikings then gained some offensive momentum that carried through the end of the game. With five seconds left in the game and up by nine points, freshman guard Aaron Jelks was on the free throw line to close out the game. Jelks hit the first one, but then missed his final free throw. Sophomore forward Matthew Wooten spared no hesitation and swooped the offensive rebound to smash the final dunk of the game to finalize the 93-81 win for the Vikings.

Wooten, Ofoegbu and Bass all led the team with 15 points each and sophomore guard Jeremiah Sadler totaled nine rebounds and six assists.

The men's basketball team will play again on Friday, Jan. 4 at Chaffey College at 6 p.m.
