State No. 6-ranked Men’s Basketball to Host No. 5 East Los Angeles College on Friday

The state No. 6-ranked and Southern California No. 4-ranked Long Beach City College men's basketball team will be hosting No. 5/3 East Los Angeles College Huskies this Friday, Jan. 18 at 6 p.m. in the Hall of Champions.

The Vikings just won their sixth-consecutive game against Pasadena College 80-69 on Wednesday, Jan. 16, and are on their largest winning-streak of the season. Freshman guard Jace Bass led the team with 19 points and totaled seven rebounds. Bass leads the South Coast Conference with averaging 19.2 points per game and is ranked 17th in the state for points per game. Sophomore guard Jamiu Akinbile is third on the leaderboard in the conference with averaging 7.6 rebounds per game. In his last game against the Lancers, Akinbile led the Vikings with 11 rebounds and 12 points.

The Vikings last traveled to East Los Angeles College in 2016, where they lost to the Huskies 105-82. The Huskies are currently ranked a notch about the Vikings, sitting in fifth in the state and third in the Southern California region. East Los Angeles College's sophomore Solomon Hunt is currently sitting the 29th spot in the state for a 59.6 field goal percentage.

As a team, the Vikings are averaging 80.1 points per game and 38.1 rebounds per game. They are averaging a 70.2 percent at the free throw line and are 42.7 percent in field goal average.
