No. 10 Men’s Basketball Extends Winning-Streak over Compton College

The state-ranked No. 10 Long Beach City College men's basketball team took down the Compton College Tartars 93-84 in their annual Coaches versus Cancer game. This is the Vikings sixth-consecutive South Coast Conference win. The Vikings are averaging 38. 2 rebounds per game and 77.7% on the line in conference action.

Compton took the initial lead over the Vikings at the start of the game and held their largest lead over Vikings by nine points. Long Beach bounced back and surpassed the Tartars with a 12 point lead, but then allowed Compton to come back close out the first half ahead by nine points.

In the second half of the game, the Vikings came unglued with their three pointers. Sophomore forward Charles Smith hit three-consecutive three pointers, followed by a three pointer from sophomore guard Jeremiah Sadler, and then another from freshman guard Aaron Jelks.

The Vikings honed in on the Tartars and ended the game with the 93-84 conference win.

Sophomore guard Jamiu Akinbile led the team with 28 points and had six assists. Freshman guard Jace Bass had nine defensive rebounds and five assists for the Vikings.

The No. 10 men's basketball will return to conference action at LA Harbor College on Friday, Feb. 15 at 5 p.m.
