Men’s Basketball Advances to the Third Round of CCCAA SoCal Regionals

The state-ranked No. 11 men's basketball team took down the No. 21 Santiago Canyon Hawks 78-70 in the second round of the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) Southern California Regional Playoffs on Friday evening in the Hall of Champions. With the tenth-consecutive win, the Vikings advance to a 25-4 overall record.

The Hawks took control in the first half of the game by outscoring the Vikings 42-32. They had their largest lead of the game of 12 points with one-minute left in the half. Sophomore guard Nicolas Stuart held the Vikings in the first half as he was constantly consistent at offensive rebounds.

The Vikings came back in the second half of the game ready to finish. Sophomore guard Jeremiah Sadler hit back-to-back three pointers and sophomore forward Matthew Wooten kept the offensive momentum shift with a smashing dunk from the assist freshman guard Jace Bass.

Bass led the team with 28 points, 12 rebounds, and had 10 assists and two steals. Freshman guard Aaron Jelks and Sadler both totaled 10 points for Long Beach. Sophomore forward Charles Smith was a force on defense as he had four blocks against the Hawks.

The Vikings held pushed themselves and finished the playoff game with 78-70 win over Santiago Canyon to advance to the third round of the CCCAA SoCal Regionals on Saturday, March. 9.
