Vikings go 3-0 to win West LA Wild West Shootout

CULVER CITY – A solid start to the 2022-23 season for the Long Beach City College men's basketball team continued as the Vikings picked up three victories over the weekend on their way to winning the Wild West Shootout tournament at West Los Angeles College.

LBCC showed off its high-scoring offense by averaging 102 points per game at the tourney. Long Beach opened the event with a 101-93 victory on Thursday against Orange Coast College and followed it up by scoring a season-high 106 points in a 106-94 win over MiraCosta College in Friday's semifinals. The Vikings closed out the tourney with a convincing 99-72 win over host West LA in the championship final on Saturday.

Kameron Mayhan had a huge weekend for the Vikings, averaging 21.7 points and 11.7 rebounds per game. He put up 21 points and 14 rebounds against Orange Coast, 23 points and 8 boards vs. MIraCosta, and totaled 21 points and 13 rebounds vs. West LA.

Shane Hunter was also solid, posting 25 points and 5 rebounds against OCC, 18 points and 6 assists vs. MiraCosta, and 21 points and 5 rebounds in the final victory over West LA.

Other standout efforts included 25 points and 9 rebounds from Lorenzo Marsh against MiraCosta, and against West LA, Chris Herrera totaled 20 points and 5 boards while Bonard Johnson Jr posted 23 points, 6 rebounds, and 4 steals.

Long Beach improved to 7-3 overall and returns to action on Dec. 8 when the Vikings will compete in the Santa Barbara Classic at Santa Barbara City College.
