The Long Beach City College men's soccer team continued its unbeaten streak to open the 2014 season with a 1-1 draw against visiting Rio Hondo College on Friday in the Vikings' home opener.

LBCC is 1-0-3 before its heads to Taft College on Tuesday (Sep 16) for a 3 p.m. non-conference against one of the state's traditionally top teams.

On Friday, Rio Hondo got on the scoreboard first getting a goal from Ronnie Mungia in the 17th minute.

But Long Beach answered with the equalizer in the 36th minute. After a foul just outside the box, sophomore Jose Garcia (Artesia HS) bent his free kick around Rio Hondo goalkeeper Erik Alvarado into the upper-right corner for the goal.

LBCC nearly went ahead just moments before the halftime whistle. Sophomore Bacilio Hernandez' (Downey HS) open-net shot was cleared off the goal line by a Rio Hondo defender to keep the game tied at 1-1.

Long Beach dominated possession in the second half, but couldn't capitalize on its scoring chances.

Sophomore Kifi Cabrera (Poly HS) posted one save in goal for Long Beach while Alvarado had four saves for the Roadrunners.
