Men’s Soccer: Solis’ last-minute goal gives Long Beach 1-1 draw vs. El Camino

Freshman midfielder Hector Solis (Bellflower HS) scored in the 90th minute to turn a potential Long Beach City College men's soccer loss into a 1-1 draw against South Coast Conference-leading El Camino College on Tuesday at LBCC.

The tie keeps the Vikings in fourth place in the SCC standings with 15 points and a 4-4-3 conference record. Long Beach is 6-5-6 overall with just three conference games remaining as the Vikings make a push for the postseason.

On Tuesday, LBCC and El Camino were scoreless after the first quarter as the Vikings outshot the Warriors by a 7-2 margin.

But in the second half, the Warriors struck first when Andy Nunez scored off the assist from Derrick Hamilton in the 60th minute.

Down to the final moments in the game, LBCC sophomore Jose Garcia (Artesia HS) fed Solis with the pass that he was able to take and place his shot past El Camino goalkeeper Jose Sanchez for the equalizer.

Long Beach managed just three shots in the second half to finish the game with 10 while El Camino (8-1-8, 6-1-4 SCC) totaled eight shots. LBCC freshman goalkeeper Daniel DeHaro (Cabrillo HS) finished with five saves while Sanchez posted four saves for the Warriors.

Today was the second of five consecutive home games to close out the regular season for the Vikings. LBCC returns to the field on Friday (Nov. 7) when it hosts El Camino College Compton Center at 3 p.m.
