Six More Viking Soccer Players Move On

A total of 14 student-athletes from the men's soccer program moved on this past year. William Cabello, Mario De La Torre, Noah Leonardo, Bryan Villa, Isaac Guerrero, and Cameron Badal are the other six students adding to the eight that have already been featured.

William Cabello and Mario De La Torre both signed their letter of intent to continue their education and playing careers at four-year universities. Cabello signed with Westcliff in Irvine and De La Torree signed with Division II San Francisco State. In addition, from the 2022 team, Noah Leonardo decided to continue his education at CSU Long Beach, Brian Villa and Cameron Badal are continuing their education at CSU Dominguez Hills, and lastly, Isaac Guerro is going to the University of California, Irvine.

During the 2021 season, Cabello was the team captain, started 18 of 21 games, and recorded his lone goal versus Pasadena College. He then signed with Marymount University just weeks before the school was closed down. Westcliff is an NAIA school coached by Randy Dodge that competes in the California Pacific Conference.

Mario played two years with the Vikings and helped lead the team to the playoffs in 2017. He played in 27 matches, starting in 26, and recorded 5 shutouts for his career. After the season, he originally signed with Division II Davis and Elkins College, but then changed his mind and kicked for two years for the Vikings football team. Mario is going to San Francisco State which is part of the CCAA and is coached by Pedro Osorio.

Noah Leonardo was the 2022 team's Co-Academic team award winner with a perfect 4.0 GPA. He has been on the dean's honor roll each semester he has been at LBCC. After turning down some athletic scholarship offers, he has decided to continue his education at CSU Long Beach. The Sharks do not have an NCAA men's team, but Noah is looking to play on the school's club team.

Brian Villa was possibly the team's most skilled individual on the team during the 2021 and 2022 seasons. Although he was offered numerous soccer scholarships both in California and out of state, he chose to stay close to home and continue his education at Cal State University of Dominguez Hills. He is looking to start his semi-professional career while looking to get his Bachelor's degree.

Isaac Guerrero was on the team roster in 2021 and was the team manager during the 2022 season. He had an athletic scholarship offer to attend Stanton University but chose to continue his education at the University of California, Irvine.

Cameron Badal was the team's leading scorer with seven goals and two assists in 14 games during 2019. 2020 was canceled due to Covid-19. In the 2021 season, he was a vital part of the team that reached the playoffs. Initially, Badal accepted an offer to Sonoma State University with Coach Marcus Zeimer but chose to stay close to home at CSU Dominguez Hills.

With six more players moving onto four-year universities, it brings this past year's total to 14 players, 11 from the 2022 team, who are moving on to continue their education.
