It was recently announced by the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) that the Long Beach City College swimming & diving programs qualified for CCCAA State Championships for a combined 12 events on the men's and women's sides after impressive individual results at the South Coast Conference Championships.

For the men, sophomore Mark Denison qualified for three individual events in the 50 Free (21.38), 100 Free (45.68), and 200 Free (1:42.88). Denison broke the previous LBCC record in the 100 Free that was set by Brendan Beer in 2002 at a time of 45.90.

Sophomore Aaron Mowl qualified for a pair of events that include the 100 Back (51.98) and the 200 Back (1:54.85).

The men qualified in four separate relays that include the 200 Free Relay (1:27.16), the 200 Medley Relay (1:37.88), the 800 Free Relay (7:11.68), and the 400 Free Relay (3:11.64). Denison and Mowl are a part of the al four relays to highlight their successes.

The 200 Free Relay will consist of freshman Shaun Spaulding, freshman Ryan Sar, Denison, and Mowl. The 200 Medley Relay will feature freshman Andrew Ingram, Spaulding, Denison, and Mowl.

Freshman Myles Martinez and sophomore Timothy Nilan will team up with Dension and Mowl in the 800 Free Relay, followed by the 400 Free Relay that will be compiled of Mowl, Spaulding, Martinez, and Mowl.

Freshman Samantha Wooley was the lone individual qualifier for the women as she reaches the state championship stage in the 50 Free (24.82), 100 Free (54.42) and 100 Back (59.87). She recently broke the LBCC record in the 100 Back that was previously set by Amanda Heintzelman in 2002 with a time of 1:01.09.

Overall, the men's took second place and the women took fifth place at the SCC Championships this past weekend.

The CCCAA State Championships are set to begin on Thursday, May 4th and continue through Saturday, May 6th at East Los Angeles College.
