Long Beach Men's Volleyball Shoots Up to Third in CCCMVCA Poll

It is safe to say that the Long Beach City College men's volleyball team is a force to be reckoned with for yet another season.

At the helm of sixth-year Head Coach Jonathon Charrette, the Vikings have shot up to the third spot in the most recent California Community College Men's Volleyball Coaches Association (CCCMVCA) Poll. The Vikings have been ranked in the top-10 for the duration of the season after holding the top-spot in the preseason poll after being crowned 2016 State Champions.

Long Beach is currently riding an eight-game winning streak that has featured wins over conference foe Santa Monica and crosstown rival Golden West. Both teams are ranked in the top-10.

Leading the squad is freshman outside hitter Cyrus Fa'alogo (Salt Lake City, UT). The phenome has made a name for himself around the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) by ranking atop the state with 222 kills. He ranks second in kills-per-set (5.16) while ranking third in hitting percentage (.382).

The Vikings rely on numerous weapons to compliment the dominance of Fa'alogo with freshman outside Noah Taitano (Carson, CA) and sophomore outside Travis O'Gorman (East Northport, NY) carrying the bulk of the load. Taitano has amassed 80 kills for a 2.96 kills-per-set average, while O'Gorman has is five kills away from hitting the century mark as he has dented the deck for 95 kills.

Sophomore middle blocker Elai Mama (Moreno Valley, CA) has owned the middle of the floor by rising up for 56 total blocks. Sophomore middle blocker Eli Garcia (Bellflower, CA) has complimented him nicely by earning 49 total stuffs.

There are two main gears that run the offensive machine as sophomore setting tandem Gary Trejo (Downey, CA) and Jayce Ashment (Gilbert, AZ) work to lead the prowess. Trejo has handled more than half of the duties by serving up 305 assists, while Ashment has inked 175 assists.

Sophomore libero David Escobedo (Los Angeles, CA) has been impressive on the backline by earning 78 digs to fuel the offensive rhythm.

The Vikings have a big test tonight as they take on the No. 4 El Camino College Warriors with huge conference implications. This is the Vikings sixth top-10 match this season.
