Men’s Volleyball Sweeps Grossmont College in Home Opener

The Long Beach City College men's volleyball team defeated the Grossmont College Griffins in a 3-0 sweep on Wednesday evening. The Vikings won by set scores of 25-20, 25-14, and 25-16. With the win, the Vikings advance to 3-1.

The Vikings immediately took control offensively as they averaged a .529 kill percentage in the first set. Freshman outside hitter Kyle Anema was first on the board with the assist from freshman setter Kyler Tufuga to kick-start the lead for the Vikings.

Anema led the team with 11 total kills and had a career-high record of eight service aces. Tufuga was next on the leaderboard with 28 assists and had two service aces and one dig. The Vikings totaled 14 aces against the Griffins and 35 kills.

Freshman opposite Uriel Batista dominated the Griffins with nine kills, three aces and had six digs for the Vikings.

The Vikings powered through all three sets with ease to win close out their first home game with a win. Long Beach men's volleyball will return on Friday, Feb. 8 against Miramar College at home in the Building Q Gym at 6 p.m.
