Men’s Water Polo: Vikings advance to SoCal semifinals with win over Ventura

The No. 1-seeded Long Beach City College Men's Water Polo team defeated No. 9 Ventura College by a final score of 14-5 on Friday in the quarterfinals of the 2013 Southern California Regional Championships at Cerritos College.

With the victory, the Vikings pushed their winning streak to 16 games and improved their record to 23-2 overall.

Long Beach led 6-0 at halftime and was never threatened. Marino Fatovic (Dubrovnic, Croatia) led the Vikings with five goals while Ikko Saito (Cerritos HS) had three goals, and Nemanja Petrovic (Novi Sad, Serbia) scored twice.

In goal, starter Lazar Andric (Herceg-Novi, Montenegro) posted nine saves and Akio Saito (Cerritos HS) had four second-half saves.
   
The win advances LBCC to Saturday morning's 8:30 a.m. semifinal to face No. 4 Cuesta College with the winner advancing to the SoCal Championship final later in the day at 2:45 p.m. In the other semifinal game, No. 2 Golden West College will take on No. 6 Grossmont College.

A semifinal victory would also secure a spot in next week's CCCAA Water Polo State Championship set for November 22-23 at Riverside City College.
