Long Beach Men's Water Polo Advances to CCCAA State Championship

The Long Beach City College men's water polo team traveled to Livermore, CA on Friday afternoon to face off against West Valley at Las Positas College in the California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA) State Championships. After shutting out West Valley in the opening three frames, the Vikings cruised to a 10-4 victory and will look to defeat Golden West in the CCCAA state championship tomorrow afternoon at 2 p.m.

The Vikings came out very hungry in the contest by halting the West Valley scoring through the opening three periods. While doing so, Long Beach poured on the offense by scoring three goals in the opening frame leading to the victory.

Freshman goalkeeper Nick Wood was phenomenal in the contest by making 12 saves and only allowing four goals in the game.

Freshman center Gavin Kunkle paced the offense by scoring three goals, while sophomore defender Jack Larson and sophomore attacker Teo Dadic backed him with two scores. Freshman attacker Mario Moran had a well-rounded game by firing home two scores and dishing out two assists.

Freshman attacker Myles Martinez led the defensive initiatives by recording a game-high five steals.

Long Beach and Golden West have met four times on the year with Golden West sweeping the series. Long Beach looks to break their winning streak against them by hauling in a second-consecutive CCCAA State Championship. Stay tuned to www.lbccvikings for more information.
